Want to Stop Giving Away Your Power To Others?
By:Nick Arrizza, M.D.

When a person gives their power away to others it makes them feel like they have no say or control over the course of their lives, weak, powerless, like a helpless victim of circumstance, forsaken, exploited, abused, unloved, unfulfilled, unsatisfied, frustrated, like life is difficult, demoralized, depressed, needy and in need of being rescued. So why would anyone choose such a submissive stance? It may surprise you that the answers to that question are also the keys to reclaiming ones rightful power and control over their life?

What does it mean to give one's power away to someone else? Well simply it means to discount, ignore, turn away from, deny, and/or negate one's own inner truth about some issue that matters to them. For instance suppose you regularly defer the choice of restaurant you dine at weekly to your partner and then wind up not liking the experience, resenting your partner for it, beating up on yourself and further undermining your self confidence; that is a perfect example of what I am talking about.

To you it may feel like your partner is controlling, dominating, or uncaring and insensitive to your preferences but in fact it is "you" who have essentially made the decision to submit yourself to him/her. This may surprise and/or offend you when I say it but whenever you feel the way I just described in relation to someone else it is "always" because you have engineered it!

Now that may anger some of you but if you look at the positive side it means that you can also "un-choose" or rather choose what you really want in each situation. Now here is where it becomes interesting because I'm sure you may immediately start thinking some of the following

Well if I am going to stick my neck out and take responsibility for what I want then there is a strong possibility that:

1. I may be rejected.
2. I may get into an unwanted confrontation.
3. Others might get angry with me.
4. Others may not like me.
5. I will find myself alone and with no friends.
6. I will be considered odd and unattractive.

And so on.

What you have just elicited is the set of subconsciously stored beliefs that actually control you, exist right inside your mind and are not actually coming from the other person. That means that if you can somehow erase/delete these from within that will release yourself from the prison of limitation they hold you in and you will become free, self directed, self confident, strong, resilient, independent, self assured, worthy, attractive and much more. That, by the way is what it feels to be in your power!
