5 Must See Destinations in New Zealand's North Island
By:Mark T James

After you have finalised your travel insurance details it's time to start planning your North Island holiday. New Zealand is famous the world over for each unique array of attractions not to mention stunning landscapes no matter where you choose to travel.

In one moment you can be driving through grassy plains and in what seems to be the twinkling of an eye, find yourself driving through picturesque farm land all set against a backdrop of stunning snowcapped alps. New Zealand has something to offer everybody whether it be skiing, adventure travel, or simply relaxing in some of the most beautiful landscapes on the planet.

Trying to single out five destinations you should visit is a difficult task at any time. Let's start the process by looking at five destinations you should include on your itinerary.

Rotorua Health Spa. Just above the centre of the North Island towards the West Coast you may find yourself relaxing and rejuvenating your body at the Rotorua health spa. Located in idyllic surrounds and offering dozens of unique treatments lasting up to one day, you will soon find your troubles melting away and emerge revitalised and cleansed from this wonderful experience.
The Waitomo Caves. These caves are a natural highlight of any North Island holiday. You will marvel at the spectacular limestone formations as well as the bubbling mud pools. At night glow-worms sparkle along the walls and charm adults and children alike with their spectacular night-time display. You can take a special guided tour and spend a delightful day in a round-trip from Auckland.
Lord of the Rings Tour. Those of you who were entranced by the Lord of the Rings trilogy of films will no doubt want to take advantage of the specially designed tours that visit the countryside which was used during filming. You will be welcomed to Middle Earth and visit places that were used in 20 scenes during the films. You will also go to Hobbiton Woods and get a feel for life with the Hobbits!
The Bay of Islands. Often touted as New Zealand's most popular destination the Bay of islands in the North Island is a spectacularly beautiful location that is at the heart of Maori history. It is said that this is where the Maori first arrived in New Zealand in their great canoes as they settled the area and began to populate the North Island before heading south. It was originally chartered by Abel Tasman in 1642. You can spend many days exploring this beautiful region without visiting the same place twice.
Golf Tour. If you are a golf fanatic, the North Island has some spectacular options for you to consider. One of the most amazing golf courses in the world is located at Cape Kidnappers in Hawke's Bay. It is currently rated 13th in the top 100 golf courses in the world by Golf Digest. The course incorporates beautiful sand dunes that slope down to the sea affording players spectacular sea views. You are assured of fast and firm conditions and if you can control the height of your trajectory you may gain some mastery over this magnificent course.

International travel insurance is a must whenever you take an overseas holiday and, let's face it, you don't want any unforeseen circumstances to spoil your holiday when you look at what is on offer in the North Island of New Zealand.
