Travel Tips

Folding and Packing Tips for Business Luggage
By:Joan Reinbold

Reduce stress and arrive at your business destination with luggage efficiently packed. Folding and packing tips provide organization that make finding packed items easier and include the use of luggage space to its full capacity. Tips for business trip packing help to avoid Murphy's Law: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”

Flying Regulations
Find out what the current banned items are for airline travel, as well as amount limits for what you are taking. This includes the weight allowance for your luggage. The Transportation Security Administration website provides a list of banned items. Remember, before going through security, if you have something you do not need to wear all the time -- such as a jacket or earrings -- place that item in your purse or carry-on tote until you are through the gate.

Packing Preparation
Before you begin packing, make a list of everything you need to take with you. Keep this list with you in case you loose your luggage somewhere along the way.

Luggage
Using the least amount of luggage possible makes the traveling part of a business trip simpler. Pack everything in a suitcase that can be taken as carry-on, if possible. Wheeled luggage saves energy that would otherwise be spent carrying the luggage, while luggage with a strap allows you to take on stairs. In addition to your luggage, take a personal bag to contain things you want to be more easily accessible.

Clothes
Read weather forecasts for the area where the business trip destination is, to decide how warmly or coolly to dress. Also read up on cultural norms for business and casual wear. Wrap up shoes in a smaller bag to keep them from the clothes.

Keeping Clothes Wrinkle-Free
Do not pack clothes that wrinkle easily, such as clothes made of linen. Instead, pack clothes designed to resist wrinkling. Use the rolling method to fold your clothes, rather than folding them the regular way, in order to reduce the incidence of wrinkles.

Amenities
Take enough of each amenity to last the length of the business trip. Place each amenity in a resealable plastic bag before placing it in your suitcase.
