Travel Tips
Some of the best travel stories come from missing buses, having nowhere to sleep, and getting lost. The memories of student travel are endless and will provide entertainment for years to come. Yet, despite the joys of travel gone wrong, usually a few weeks or years later, at the time mishaps can be stressful. So below are a few travel tips to make one’s Europe trip less stressful, but not any less interesting.
General Travel Tips
* Leave a passport photocopy and copy of travel itinerary with a trusted friend or relative.
* Book accommodation one town in advance. This is a more budget travel friendly option as it avoids the traveler having to pick the first, and inevitably most expensive accommodation.
* Check ahead of time if bookings are needed. Arriving at a ferry to discover that there is room for two out of the group of three isn’t fun.
What to Pack, or Not Pack for Budget Travel
* No matter how tempting it is to take heels, DON’T!
* Take a set of warm clothes.
* Raincoat…optimism is good but why test fate?
* Take a time keeping device.
* A sleeping bag. This item takes up a lot of room but it serves multiple purposes, most importantly warmth when one finds them-self sleeping on that park bench or airport.
* Divide multiple items, except for socks and underwear, in half. Leave one half at home.
Getting From One Place to Another
* The beauty of traveling in Europe is that getting flights from one place to another is super budget friendly.
* For those who are not on a tight schedule or specific the best thing to do is check airline websites for deals and promotions.
* Another great option is the Rail Card, which exponentially discounts rail travel as well as offering various discounts on sea travel.
Where Student Travelers Can Book Flights
* Getting to Europe is a little bit more expansive. In order to save as much money as possible, student travelers should look at multiple airlines and travel sites before booking their flights.
* Also, it is a good idea to look back often as prices are subject to change.
* Two favorite sites for booking flights within Europe are Ryan Air and Easy Jet .
When looking for cheap accommodation in Europe, try talking to friends and family first. It is always surprising who knows whom, and even if they don’t know anyone, they may have suggestions from their own travels. Next look up sites such as Hostel-World, Crashpadder, and Couchsurfing. The are other sites, but these are the ones that seem to be most popular with student, and budget travelers.
