Learn Something About Tipping Habits When Traveling
By:Pierre Smith

Usually when we go to restaurants and enjoy the service of a waiter or the whole restaurant itself, we provide tips that serves as a thank you token. Tipping may vary from the country you are in or a specific restaurant, it is essential to learn a little something about tipping.

In the United States, tipping amount is usually twenty percent of the bill. But you have to remember that some restaurants include tax in the price of the actual food and drinks. Meaning, it is not twenty percent of the bill that include tax. Some restaurant even added service charge to larger groups, or deliveries. What you have to remember is that, you should be aware of this information. Because when a service fee is added and you include another tip, then it will cost you double. Making your server very happy.

When it comes to Europe, they add service charge to the bill while some restaurants don't so you should be aware of that. Make a practice to always look at he bill and determine if there's a service charge already added. If you still want to ad a few tips for a job well done and great service, it's entirely up to you.

Tipping and giving gratuity differs from country to country. In countries like Japan, Australia, New Zealand or other places; it is not expected and it will entirely be up to you if you will give them gratuity. Another great tip is observation. Try to look at what locals do when they tip. Do they tip coins or bills? Or do they tip at all. It will also be great to ask local friends of what is appropriate. Never ask your waiter on what to do because you'll just end up obligated to give something. Never also ask for change when tipping. If you don't have spare coins or bills, might as well never leave a tip.

Whether you frequent high end restaurants or you favor local places, the best advice is to learn the custom. Or just be yourself. If you enjoyed the service or if the service was great, then leave your tip that is appropriate.

Just remember this simple thought. A tip is something you give a person as a form of gift or gratitude for the services rendered. A tip is usually based on how you felt and how you were treated during that time. So base your tip on that, and I hope you do the right thing.
