English schools in Latin America
U.A.S. offers an integral, multicultural curriculum in English and Spanish. This unique educational opportunity allows students to understand, accept and celebrate the different cultures of our community. Our campus houses a 6,400 m2 building comprised of program spaces, well-equipped science laboratories, a large library, auditorium, full-service cafeteria, weight room, gymnasium, regulation soccer field, outside hard courts, computer lab and support offices.
Founded in 1958 in an urban neighborhood known as Punta Carretas in Montevideo, the Uruguayan American School recently relocated to its third facility in 2003. The new complex is located on a 7.500-acre (3.0 hectares) campus in an upscale residential suburb of Montevideo called Carrasco.
UAS was originally established to provide a US-style education in Uruguay. Most students were American citizens or Uruguayans whose parents chose this kind of education for their children. We continue to offer an expanded and improved American program combined with fully-accredited Uruguayan programs that give our students the flexibility of choosing from a wider selection of local and international universities.
For years, school enrollment averaged around 200 students. With our new, larger facility we now average around 280 students representing approximately 25 different nationalities from Nursery through Grade 12.
