There is a trend in this region which on the surface might seem like good opportunities for ESL teachers.

Private universities are springing up throughout the region exploiting the fears of parents who don't want their kids to go to the US and be harasssed by the FBI. There is neither a copyright on the word American nor is there one on university. Putting the two together and adding "of_______" fill in the blank with city or country, can be more packing than a nything else.

Some are accredited. Many aren't. They hire western business consultants and disguise them with titles like "Dean" to help increase profit margins.

They are probably good investments as the national univerities can't absorb all of the kids born during the Arabian Gulf baby boom--70s and 80s.

Do a little research if offered a job. The American University of Dubai is fully SACS accredited. The America University of Kuwait is purely a capital gains operation.
