Trump diplomacy - 2017-01-29

Between 1948 and 1958, 43 U.S. atomic blasts rocked Enewetak Atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean — part of the Marshall Islands ("a presidential republic in free association with the United States"), which sit between Hawaii and the Philippines. Four islands were entirely vaporized. In the early 1970s, the Enewetak islanders threatened legal action if they didn’t get their home back. In 1972, the United States government agreed to return the atoll and vowed to clean it up first. Even after the cleanup, many of the islands are still too radioactive to inhabit.
How dare the Chinese build islands in the South China sea!
Diego Garcia anyone?
