I am a 48-year old vivacious, energetic lady from South Africa. I love working with young children, teenagers and adults alike. I have decided that I would like to spend the next 5-10 Years making a difference in people's lives by teaching English as a foreign language. My native language is English. I was unable to have children of my own so will find this career very fulfilling. I do not have a teaching degree but am very well educated and have more than enough teaching experience across all age groups (see below).
I am a natural teacher and very comfortable talking to groups of any size. I have a good sense of humour, and am patient, but know how to be firm. I like to have fun and for those around me to also have fun. I have first aid skills which is important. I guarantee that your student's parents would love me.
I am a qualified laughter yoga instructor. This is a fantastic skill that I would share with you and my students. It's a great way to relax groups and break down barriers.
I taught religious studies to young children when I was 18 and then again when I was 22 - 24. My students loved me and I loved them. I was responsible for planning and preparing my lessons.
After school, I enrolled for a 3 year diploma course. In 1987 I obtained my diploma in business computers. while studying, I was invited to and worked as a lecturer assistant in my final year. I was also invited to moderate exam papers, which I did for a 2 Year period.
I started my first job in 1987. I was responsible for teaching adults how to use Computer systems. I was very good at this.
In 2004, I left my job and started my own business. I started running Summer Camps in Cape Town, South Africa and ran 4 successful camps. Children were from diverse backgrounds and aged 8-13. I was responsible for everything (accommomy, meals, activities, safety, finances). My company also arranged and managed conferences and functions for corporate clients. This often involved arranging activities and entertainment. Many functions were for family groups.
In 2011 I sold my business and started working for a large retailer as an IT. Business Analyst. In 2015 I obtained my national Diploma in Business Analysis which places a large focus on successful communication and presentation skills.
I have no doubt that I will be a huge asset to any school that employs me. My husband is completing his CELTA qualification in March, and we are hoping to being our teaching adventure in April or May 2016.
