Dear Employer,
As an educator I believe my responsibility is to facilitate the evolution of students into valuable as well as fulfilled citizens of the world. I observe conditions, behaviors, and expectations of educational communities and adapt so I may best cultivate students’ abilities to interpret and assess the situations they encounter. My hope is that I enable them to act effectively and conscientiously in university study, careers, and life.
For the past five years I have prepared Chinese high school students for higher education in western countries, mostly America. I have been increasingly engaged in college counseling, now my chief responsibility and an endeavor in which I find great reward and success. Because I find much in my graduate studies of academic advising applies to college counseling and teaching, I will continue to pursue online additional credentials supportive of my profession.
For much of my career I was primarily a teacher of English, with specialties in ESL and academic writing. My creative writing, mostly poetry, has appeared in print and on the web. Literary endeavors not only enhance my teaching of literature, but also aid my navigation of the cultural confluences in international education. Leading IB TOK and EE curriculum influenced my decision to earn the University of Edinburgh's PostGraduate Certificate in Global Environmental Challenges, which complements inclusion of current issues and topics into classroom discussions and assignments. The University of Maine’s Honors College core curriculum, "Civilizations Past, Present, & Future," peaked my interest in cultural immersion and was influential in my decision to come to China after graduation.
In my twelve years as an educator in the U. S. and China I have expanded my cultural awareness, which augments my knowledge of and skill in advising and teaching, and therefore I am better able to fulfill leadership responsibilities and achieve management goals.

Thank you,
Michael King
