How to Work at Home by Finding Online Teaching Jobs
By:Kathy Adams McIntosh

Colleges need to cater to students serve students and remain competitive. Flexible class scheduling and online classes provide a competitive edge to these schools. Many students prefer online classes because they offer the flexibility for students to attend classes on their own schedule. These students benefit from the ability to balance their work, family and education responsibilities. Online teachers invest their time and resources to develop the knowledge of their students. Online teaching jobs offer instructors the ability to work from home while maintaining a flexible schedule.

Identify what classes you want to teach. Review your work experience. List all possible college courses that relate to your work responsibilities. Include courses that relate to your own college degree. If you taught in-person classes, include these on your list.

List your qualifications. Start with your most recent resume and update it to include all of your professional activities. Professional activities include work responsibilities, participation in professional organizations and any training sessions you've attended. Maintain a separate list of your professional activities, which includes more details regarding those activities.

Contact local colleges. Identify which program your possible courses fall into. Research the college website or call the college information line to identify which deans oversee these programs. Call each of these deans and request to meet with them. Ask them about their requirements for online teachers. Share your own qualifications with them and request that they let you know about any openings.

Research online teaching classified ads. Various websites cater to online teaching opportunities. Review the job postings on these websites and locate opportunities that match your own qualifications. Write down the requirements for applying online. Many of these postings require your resume and college transcripts to apply. Gather electronic copies of all required documents.

Apply for jobs. Plan a few hours to sit down and apply for online teaching jobs. Find a room with no distractions where you can focus on the questions asked. Respond to each question completely. Submit the application. Keep a list of all teaching jobs you apply for.
