Teacher Training Schools
Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) Centre
One of the leading English language centres in Canada, the TESL Centre at Saint Mary's University offers a variety of English and teacher-training programs carefully designed to meet your needs. For non-native speakers of English, the Intensive English Program offers year round language, cultural, and orientation programs such as the following:
English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
University Bridging Program (UBP)
English for Personal and Professional Communication (EPPC)
One-month ESL Immersion (IMM)
We are also pleased to arrange special courses on a contractual basis with local or international universities, governments and businesses. We custom design these courses to meet the specific needs of our clients. For example, we can offer general language and culture programs, university transition programs or English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs focussing on the language used in specific disciplines or professions. We also offer small tutorial or seminar groups, part-time ESL courses and custom-designed programs for individuals. In all our language programs, active involvement with the local English speaking community is emphasized, so that you feel at home on our campus and in the beautiful port city of Halifax.
If you are interested in a career teaching English, the TESL Centre offers a certificate and diploma in teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language to children or adults. A Masters program in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in TESL/TEFL is also available through Saint Mary's Faculty of Education, in association with Mount St. Vincent University.
