Travel in the Philippines
Dating in Philippines
Having lived here in Philippines for two years now, it is very obvious that it has become a popular destination when it comes to foreign men visiting the country with the intention of either dating or getting married to Philippine women. The place I currently live is called Naawan you would be hard pressed to find it on Google earth. It is a very small, rural town half-way between Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, two of the major cities in Northern Mindanao. The infrastructure isn't the best, black out(brown outs as they are referred to locally), but it is the quite lifestyle that appeals to me and to many other Americans/British/Europeans that live here. The last official census was in 2000 and then it was estimated that 16000 people lived in 3400 households.Naawan is nationally recognized as one of the most beautiful and cleanest places to stay in the Philippines. As you enter there is a billboard that reads, Welcome to Naawn, the cleanest, greenest town in Misamis Oriental. Naawan is right on the coast so their a plenty of beautiful beaches, forests. A great place for kids to enjoy their childhood. Although it is a small place the local University, Mindanao State University is one of the most popular universities in Mindanao, with students competing every year for a placement
Filipino Driving Lessons
If you are a driver with a nervous disposition, NEVER drive in Philippines. The roads look the same, the double yellow lines are there, the traffic lights work, sometimes, but that doesn't mean a thing. You need to keep your wits about you all the time. Night driving is the worst. You will find cars and trucks with no lights. People in the middle of the road, bicycles, motorboats and there is no advance warning about roadworks. Sometimes a tin can with some kerosene is the only warning, 1 meter before they start. If you have never driven here it is best to use the taxis, they are relatively cheap if you insist that they use the meter.
In Naawan and surrounding areas there are quite a few other Americans or Brits who have settled here. At first I was very surprised to find that so many foreigners had settled in such a remote, rural area. The reason I now know, after getting to know them and from living here myself is the character of the people that live in these small villages or towns. Philippines in general is a fairly poor country, with very little social support. Many guys who date girls online will be dating girls from the major cities. It is unfortunate, but I understand to a certain extent, that many of these girls are looking to escape the poverty and get involved with internet scams. There are places where the girls are taught how to scam the foreigners when chatting online. It becomes a job for them, they get paid by conning unsuspecting foreigners out of their money. The thing with small towns like this is that the girls haven't been corrupted by the big cities.
Places like this are very closely nit and everyone knows all the gossip. Once the daily chores are done there are always little groups of people standing around having a good old gossip. There is still a lot of self respect and honesty. Respect is something that is instilled in the children from a young age and family values are still very important to most Filipinos. Having lived in UK it is a pleasure to walk down the street and find the kids pleasant to be around. There isn't the bad language and disrespect that kids often show to elderly people. That kind of behavior is just not tolerated. It has now become obvious why there are so many foreigners dating or married to women from small towns like this. The way of life is great, if you aren't a city boy, and the women are not after your money. I know it may sound terrible, but it is true. The problem with poorer countries is that the girls are often taught to either become prostitutes or to go online to scam for money. If you are considering dating a girl from Philippines, do your homework. Try find someone who already lives here and may be able to introduce you to someone. Eighty percent of the women are honest, but be careful you don't end up losing your life savings.
Why Phillippine Girls Love Westeners
Filipinos love all things American. The culture has changed a lot over the years. There is definitely a hint of many cultures that have intermingled to produce a very varied cultural country. The Philippines is made up of over 7000 islands, and apart from many different languages, the various islands also have their own unique cooking styles. Having been ruled at one time or another by countries like Spain and US has left a definite impression on the Philippine culture, the American way of life and dream seems to occupy most teenagers minds. Most of the kids play basketball, the teenagers love Hollywood stars, unfortunately a lot of the education that kids get here is from the television. There is definitely a need for a much better education system, but that is a long way off. If you are going to come to Philippines to stay, you need to realize that the culture is very different. Families tend to stick together and help each other out. Your bank account will be viewed as the family account for things like hospital bills, school fees etc. Depending on your level of income that may be okay.
Let's be honest, most women, even though yes you marry for love, look to a husband to be secure in his earnings. If you are a wonderfully successful women at the top of the corporate ladder, maybe not so much. So if a Filipino girl has a choice she will most definitely marry a foreigner that can provide a better way of life, not only for her, but also her family. In return you will have one of the most devoted, kind wives that you could ever hope for. Contrary to common misconception, Philippine women are not subservient. They expect to be treated well by their husbands and if you don't, God alone can help you. It should never have to be said about any women, but if you guys think that Filipino women will be at your beck and call, think again.
If you are dating a Filipina and are considering moving permanently to stay in Philippines then you need to consider two of the biggest mistakes that foreigners make. Firstly making a living in the Philippines is not that easy for a foreigner and getting dual citizenship Philippines http://philippinejourney.com/dual-citizenship-philippines/ can be a long drawn out process.
