This shrine is actually a complex with the first of its establishments erected in the 6th century. It is a unique sight to see because it was built on the bay so that it would appear to be floating in the sea.

Hot springs in Japan

The country is rich in hot springs and bathing in these springs has been considered both a tradition and as a healthy habit by the people. Onsen is the Japanese term for hot springs and among the most popular of these are: Kusatsu, Hakone, Ikaho, Minakami, Kinugawa, Nikko, Shibu, Hanamaki, Toyako, Noboribetsu, Kinosaki, Shirahama, Kurokawa, and Kirishima. All in all there are over a hundred of these springs.

Cherry blossom festivals

Japan is also very known for its cherry blossom trees and the best months to go to experience the festivals organized around these trees are from March to May although in other regions of the country there are festivals being held from January to June. You can watch traditional Japanese performing arts and taste the various local foods being sold by the vendors.
