Study English at the International University of Monaco! (IUM)

Whether you need to brush up on your English for university study, professional or personal reasons, the Intensive English Language Program at the International University of Monaco - an international business school offering undergraduate and graduate degrees - is the perfect setting. You'll appreciate our innovative curriculum, expert instruction, small class-size and highly individualized attention. The relaxed atmosphere in class coupled with interactive activities will definitely entice you to speak and boost your self-confidence. We pride ourselves on our approachable teachers, well-equipped classrooms, modern computer labs and free internet access.

The goals of IUM’s Intensive English Language Program (IELP) are to ready non-native speakers to successfully undertake university study in English and to prepare them for the iBT TOEFL examination.

In this full-time, demanding course of study, classes meet five days a week over either a 12-week term or a special 4-week summer session. The program is aimed at undergraduate and graduate candidates, but is also open to those wishing to brush up on their English for professional or personal reasons. No university credit is awarded in this program.

As class size is kept small, personal coaching and individual feedback complement formal instruction and contribute to student progress. The relaxed atmosphere in class coupled with interactive activities entices students to speak and boosts their self-confidence. Students appreciate IUM’s innovative curriculum, expert instruction, and highly individualized attention as well as the approachable teachers, well-equipped classrooms, modern computer labs, and unlimited internet access.

The English Language and Business Culture (ELBC) session is an intensive 1-month program that immerses participants in practical academic English and English-speaking business culture. The ELBC furthers participants’ knowledge and use of core academic and business communications skills in English, and provides them with the opportunity to experience English-speaking cultures and business environments.

Participants will develop the skills, fluency, and confidence they need to communicate effectively in English – in a range of settings. They will improve their overall abilities in both spoken and written English, as well as their understanding of English-speaking business cultures. On completion of the ELBC, participants will be better prepared to use English at work and in their studies; and possess a deeper understanding of English-speaking business settings.

The ELBC is designed for anyone at the high-intermediate level or above1 who would like to enhance their English language and communications skills in preparation for further education, university study, or employment in an English-speaking business environment.

Instructional and practice materials are selected to facilitate mastery of all essential skill areas: listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. Course materials may include textbooks, magazine and newspaper articles, the Internet, ESL software, radio and television programs, and movies.

Participants will engage in a range of hands-on activities including cultural and academic discussions, business meetings, and negotiations; reading, discussing, and writing about current and business topics; using business vocabulary; reading and discussing case studies, business texts, and articles; developing business presentation skills; listening to and discussing media broadcasts; and preparing oral presentations. Much of this work is completed working with classmates on group projects.
