It is an area where human settlements existed from the time before the Romans. Bermeo is a town in it. Bermeo is a very traditional fishing village; it has a huge importance in the fishery of Basque region. Officially, Bermeo appears in the history books under this name since the 13th century. The existence of this habitat still goes back long before these official documents. Even long before Catholicism. This town is probably very old as much as the first evidence of the Basque population.

Bermeo was a fishing village in the 13th century but in the 15th century, it developed and became an important trade center. Bermeo was given the nickname that means "Chief of all Cities in Basque.â€
