Santiago de Compostela was founded in the early 400s by Suebi after the collapse of the Roman Empire; however it was not really established until 584 with the rest of Galicia, Spain. Santiago de Compostela is the home of the famous cathedral which was named in the honor of St. James, the apostle who legends say rode on a stone boat to Santiago de Compostela, The cathedral was built to mark his pilgrimage. This same cathedral is the target place today, as it always has been since the 9th century.

Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the independent area of Galicia, Spain. The city is very famous for its cathedral (large church), as it stands as the witness throughout the history of this magnificent city. The cathedral borders the main court of this well conserved city. Legend of this cathedral says that the apostle James was brought to Galicia, Spain on a boat made of stone. It was named in his honor when later, a boat that was made of stone was found in Santiago de Compostela, which people believed to be the same boat on which he rode to Spain.
