Nightclubs in Mongolia
By:Will Howard

Often referred to as the "Heart of Asia," the country of Mongolia has made great strides in the 21st century to open itself to tourism, giving outsiders a glimpse into their historic, nomadic culture. According to the Mongolian Embassy, the country reported a 14 percent increase in tourists as recent as 2006. While undisturbed, picturesque wilderness remains one of the principal attractions of this large, exotic country---Mongolia is, in fact, the nineteenth largest country in the world---the nation has much to offer those seeking an active nightlife, including numerous nightclubs.

The Oasis Night Club & Lounge
The Oasis Night Club & Lounge is considered one of the premier nightlife destinations of the capital of Ulaanbaator (or Ulan Bator), which is also Mongolia's largest city and commercial center. Billed as "one of the landmarks of the Mongolian bar scene," the nightclub offers a comfortable atmosphere---it is furnished with large sofas and serves traditional Mongolian barbecue---while maintaining an active dance floor. The venue hosts numerous parties and events, and provides VIP rooms to accommodate quieter functions. The club is open seven days a week, opening its doors at 7 p.m. Special events include Tiger Tuesday, where the local Tiger Beer is featured, and an extended "Happy Hour" from 7 until 9 p.m.

Grand Khaan Irish Pub
The Grand Khaan Irish Pub is another popular nighttime venue in the Mongolian capital. An Irish-style bar, the venue serves pub-style food as well as a vegetarian menu, and has a good selection of beers, such as local Tiger beer and Guinness beer imported from Ireland. The venue is particularly known for its live music---performances occur Monday through Saturday---and lively atmosphere, as the bar also hosts several broadcast sports channels. The club is also attached to a cafe, which serves European-style breakfasts (English and German) and traditional drinks such as cappuccinos.

Able to accommodate up to 200 people, Strings hosts a variety of live music, from Filipino entertainment to live Mongolian folk bands.
