English schools in the USA and Canada
Pre-Academic Program at the Intensive English Language Institute
The Pre-Academic Program at the IELI offers year-round academically focused English language classes that are centered on developing and perfecting all four language skills (reading, composition, speaking, and listening) in a communicative and energetic student-centered setting. Students take a placement test on all four skills before being assigned to the level appropriate for them (usually from levels 3 to 6). After the completion of the Pre-Academic Program, usually at level 6, students may elect to enroll in MSU WITHOUT having to take the TOEFL test as a pre-requisite.
The curriculum includes four hours of classroom instruction per day, five days per week: Academic Reading and Composition (90m); Classroom Listening and Speaking (90m); Contemporary Conversation (60m, three times per week); Language Focus (60m, two times per week). There are two eight-week terms per academic semester, as well as summer courses.
Wichita Falls is a medium-sized US city with a large international population (there is an international air force base nearby), and enrollment in the IELI allows students access to sports and fitness facilities on campus, as well as the cafeteria. There are many restaurants, shopping centers and malls near the university, and student housing is also available.
