Intensive English Program - KLIESEN INTERNATIONAL CENTER

The Intensive English (IE) Program at Our Lady of the Lake University, a component of the Kliesen International Center, is a non-credit program for students whose native language is not English.

This intensive program is designed to improve English proficiency for academic, personal or professional purposes.

Institutions and organizations interested in short term or special purpose English programs may make arrangements with the director of the Kliesen International Center.

Curriculum
English courses are offered during two 15-week semesters, a 10-week or four-week summer sessions. The program consists of 20 hours of instruction and from two to three hours of computer language lab work each week

Some of the strengths of the Intensive English Program are:
- Small classes provide personal attention for better learning and achievement
- High academic level instruction
- Students at the end of the course take Institutional TOEFL test
- Students are grouped on the basis of English placement tests taken prior to admission or at the time of registration.

Courses are offered at the beginning, intermediate, advanced and college transitional levels.
In the first three levels, students receive intensive instruction in listening comprehension, conversation, structure, reading and composition. Formal instruction is supplemented by field trips, films and social activities. At the fourth (college transitional) level, students take one course of advanced English while taking two or three classes of university course work for credit.

Before being admitted to college level academic work, students must make formal application to the University admissions office through the Kliesen International Center.

IE Admissions Requirements
The Intensive English program is open to applicants who are at least 18 years old. An application for admission to the IE program should be submitted to the Kliesen International Center. The health data record, proof of immunizations form and an application fee should also be submitted.
