About ELC at RIT
Rochester Institute of Technology's English Language Center is designed to teach ESOL to students who plan to attend a university in the United States and who have previously studied English. The English Language Center conducts 11-week programs every fall, winter, spring and summer. Special programs are also offered.
ESOL Classes are held on the 1,300-acre campus of RIT, an internationally acclaimed university offering innovative programs in such fields as imaging science, photography, printing, computer science, engineering, microelectronics, business and fine and applied arts.
RIT is in Rochester, New York, the world's imaging center, and offers modern housing and a great suburban location.
Orientation and Advising:
During the first few days, students participate in orientation activities to become familiar with the English Language Center, RIT and the city of Rochester. They also take English language proficiency tests and are placed at the level which best serves their needs. Instructors from the English Language Center are assigned as advisers to help students adjust academically, socially and culturally.
Rochester Institute of Technology and The English Language Center are accredited by Middle States. The English Language Center subscribes to the guidelines of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and TESOL: Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. It has met the standards and is a member of University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) and the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP).
